Dylann Roof’s Confession To Charleston Church Massacre

Image
The video of self-declared white supremacist Dylann Roof confessing to shooting and killing nine black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina, was played in court on Friday. “I went to that church in Charleston, and uh, I did it,” Roof can be heard saying in the video after FBI Special Agent Michael Stansbury asked what he did the night of June 17, 2015. When pressed on exactly what he did, Roof replied, “I just really don’t like saying it,” eventually adding, “I killed, I guess.” In the courtroom Friday, Stansbury — who works for the Columbia branch of the FBI — called Roof’s responses “extremely unusual,” and noted that it was clear during the interview that he was interested in speaking directly and immediately about the shooting. In his interview, Roof appeared to show excitement as he described the way he entered the church that Wednesday night. He recalled sitting with the churchgoers for anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes, not speaking to any of them. He also ma...

At least 25 people were killed in a bombing at Egypt’s main Coptic Christian cathedral Sunday morning, the most deadly attack on the religious minority in recent years. Local media reported an attacker threw a bomb into a chapel near the outer wall of St Mark’s Cathedral in Cairo. However, other witnesses said an explosive device had been planted inside. “I found bodies, many of them women, lying on the pews. It was a horrible scene,” cathedral worker Attiya Mahrous told the BBC. Witness Mariam Shenouda told the Associated Press: “I saw a headless woman being carried away. Everyone was in a state of shock. We were scooping up people’s flesh off the floor.” “There were children. What have they done to deserve this? I wish I had died with them instead of seeing these scenes,” she said. The bombing came two days after a explosion elsewhere in Cairo killed six policemen. Islamic militants have targeted Coptic Christians in the past, including a bo...

They were surrounded by our police. But they set off their bomb shortly after the vehicle bomb went off.” Several gunshots could be heard after the blasts in videos that were posted on social media shortly after the suspected terror attack.
