BREAKING NEWS:Pakistan Airlines Plane Crashes [40+ feared dead]

A Pakistan International Airlines plane with 37 passengers on board has crashed, according to Pakistani media reports.

The plane caught fire and crashed near Pipplian, a suburban village of Havelian near Abbottabad, media reports said.


The ATR plane PK-661 was en route to Islamabad from Chitral in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.


Earlier, the plane which was on Chitral-Islamabad route went missing from radar near Abbottabad.


According to some Pakistani media reports, there were about 47 people on board the aircraft.


However, news agency AFP quoting an airline spokesperson said the plane had 37 passengers.

According to senior police officer Khurram Rasheed, the plane crashed in a village near the town of Havelian, located about 75 kilometers (45 miles) northwest from the capital, Islamabad.A local police official, Khursheed Tanoli, told state-run Pakistan Television that the plane went down in a village in the northwest and that rescuers are trying to reach the site of the crash. Army troops and army helicopters have reportedly been deployed to the crash site.
The Crash Site
Shortly before the crash was confirmed, airlines spokesperson Daniyal Gilani said their ATR-42 aircraft operating as PK-661 carrying around 40 passengers and crew lost touch Wednesday with the control tower.
State-run Pakistan Television showed a huge fire rising from the site of the crash. Villagers were seen standing near the site.
Taj Muhammad Kahn, a local government official who as at the site of the crash, said it’s unlikely that there are any survivors from the crash.
“All of the bodies are burned beyond recognition. The debris is scattered,” he told Reuters, adding that the plane crashed in a mountainous area and was on fire before it hit the ground.
There were no immediate details on casualties but Pakistan’s interior ministry dispatched a team with experts on identifying bodies through DNA tests.

The army said it dispatched troops and helicopters to the location.
The flight departed from Chitral around 3:30 p.m. local time and was expected to land at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport at around 4:40 p.m. local time.

The Pakistani pop star turned evangelical cleric Junaid Jamshed was on the plane when it crashed, local media REPORTS.
Mr Khan, who was at the site of the crash, added that witnesses told him "the aircraft has crashed in a mountainous area, and before it hit the ground it was on fire".
Laiq Shah, a senior police official in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province told Reuters by telephone the plane had crashed in that region, near the town of Havelian.
He said ground rescue teams were en route to the crash site. The army said it dispatched troops and helicopters to the location.

Shortly before the crash was confirmed, Daniyal Gilani, the spokesman for PIA, said their ATR-42 aircraft carrying around 40 passengers and crew had lost touch with the control tower. 
"PIA's ATR-42 aircraft operating as PK-661, carrying around 40 persons lost itsCONTACT with the control tower on its way from Chitral to Islamabad a short while ago," Mr Gilani tweeted.
"All resources are being mobilised to locate the aircraft."
Initial reports said there were 37 passengers on the plane, but the civil aviation authority said there were 47 people on board.
Geo NEWS and Dawn News TV stations, citing civil aviation sourecs, said the plane lost contact with civil aviation authority at around 4.30pm (11.30 GMT).
